The insects are not the only intruders that live into the houses: Mouses and Rats constitute in their turn a risk, particularly in the houses that offer a lot of holes under the floor.

They live here and proliferate undisturbed finding a lot of food and invading the residential area. The Mouses are a trouble, but the Rats can be a real risk for the healthiness and must be removed.

Also the bats, nest in the houses, usually in the attic. They are totally innocuous, on the contrary, feeding of damaging insects, they are very useful. Nevertheless they are more and more uncommon in the countrysides.

Mouses are attracted by the remains of expired foods: the better prevention consists into taking good clean the floors. Nevertheless mouses move rapidly from a house to another through the roofs, blind areas of the walls and of the garrets, for these reasons sometime it is difficult to completely get rid of them.

To control them through the house are allocated poisoned baits wrapped around with sheets or cardboard, so to simply remove those one not touched. Children and pets must be kept far away from the baits. In the case, after three months, are still visible signs of the presence of Mouses, we must use baits. With the little cage bait are captured the Mouses in life, they are released far away from home; with the wind-up baits, Mouses are killed.

As a rule the baits we use are not much. As a matter of principle they lay every 2 metres along the usual pathways. The better position is against the baseboard, in front of the walls. The baits are triggered off with flour, fragments of cheese or chocolate attached to the hook of the bait. The dead mouses are removed burying, burning or throwing them in the flush of the w.c.

In the medium housing conditions is difficult that there are serious infestations caused by Rats, which can be a real problem in the rural areas and close to flow of water and harbour storehouses. They are killed with anticoagulant poisons; since that these products are dangerous for the health must ever be consulted the public health office.

The bats prefer to live in the unoccupied structures (agrarian buildings, caves, tunnels, etc.) but every now and then they can take over also in occupied buildings. They are not absolutely dangerous: they don’t eat wood or paints and their excreta are dry skeletons of insects. As a matter of fact the bats are precious in the attics because they feed of xylophagous insects.

The bats are become very rare, some breeds are even protected. Other than illegal is fool to kill or wound them, destroy their nests and seal off the approaches.

Before sprinkling the timber of the attics inhabited by bats, with preservatives that should be very damaging for them, must e consulted one of the many protectionist associations. When they come into inhabited apartments, try of not losing one’s cool. The bats avoid the persons, if it is possible, and anyway they don’t get tangled up in the hair as tell the grandmother’s tales.

We must open the doors and the windows to permit to the animal to go out. If they don’t drag, they can easily taken by the hands with gloves and lay them on the outside.

Poisons produced for removing the rodents are mortal also for the human being: for this reason is very important to follow word for word the instructions that are enclosed to the packagings. They must be taken beyond the reach of children and where domestic and wild animals can’t reach. Never preserve them beneath kitchen sinks where they can be mistaken for products of domestic use and can pollute the food.

In the case of an accidental assumption by animals or human beings, we must carry with us the packaging to permit the fast recognition of the poison by the veterinarian or the doctor. Poisons and chemical substances must be ever handled with protected hands with the gloves.
